President-to-be Abraham Lincoln made a famous stop in Exeter in 1860, and had the Trackside Cafe been in business, he probably would have stopped for a bite to eat on his way to visit his son at Phillips Exeter Academy. Unfortunately, the restaurant was a train station, and didn’t yet serve anything we could call food. The restaurant is still situated right next to the tracks so that patrons are able to watch the trains come and go as they enjoy their food; a great atmosphere to behold. Had the diner been in business in 1860, Lincoln would have likely topped off his delectable lunch with a slice of Trackside’s famous, homemade pie, his favorite dessert!

When you’re in the area, stop by our historic diner for some great food and friendly faces. We take pride in our restaurant and know that you will enjoy the atmosphere and the history. A diner that you’re sure to love!

The History of Trackside as a cafe dates back some 40 years, but the building in which the diner can be found today dates back to 1837. Even deeper that the history of the old train station-turned-diner is the history of Exeter itself, which has also had a presidential visit from Harry S. Truman!

Come to see Exeter, and stop by the Trackside Cafe for a delicious meal you will not forget. The food, the historic diner atmosphere, the trains, and the history will surely make your stop a great one!
